Samsung CLX-2160 box of tricks
The Samsung CLX-2160 is the all-in-one printer scanner and copier designed for the user on a budget. Costing only slightly more than a good quality inkjet MFP the CLX-2160 has an impressive spec sheet but is it as affordable as the purchase price leads us to believe? The price of the Samsung CLX-2160 toner cartridges is certain affordable and they print 2,000 and 1,000 for black and colour respectively and gives them a cost per page ratio of around 1.8p black and 8.7p colour which is ok. The first thing you notice about the CLX-2160 when you remove it from the box is that its tiny and it hard to believe Samsung have managed to fit so much it so little space. Most of this is down to the uniquely designed Samsung toner cartridges which look like Pringles tubes and slot neatly into the printer behind the front cover. The printer cartridges are not the only downsizing and some of the other downsizes made to the CLX-2160 aren’t so great, the paper tray for example only holds 150 sheets of paper and makes restocking the paper tray a frequent task. The biggest disappoint of the CLX-2160 is the print quality, while printing mono documents is of a reasonable standard the colour prints leave a lot to be desired and lack the quality that you would expect from a normal colour laser printer. This also spills over to the copying functions of the CLX-2160 as they are relevant on the printing quality and the colour copies don’t share the same quality as that of the mono ones. The Samsung CLX-2160 is still good value for money but is does make you consider spending a little bit more money to get a bit performance.
